Down To The Bones
As part of the collection "The Inside Joke: Down To The Bones," "The Long Fall From Grace" directly advances the journey that began with last year's well-received exhibition, "The Inside Joke: The Bare Bones of Narcissism." This year's gallery expands its scope well beyond narcissism to confront other dark, complex areas of the psyche and human condition. With "The Long Fall From Grace," the focus turns toward the slow, heartbreaking reality of addiction and the quiet erosion of one's former life.
In this compelling mixed-media piece, a skeletal figure with dark curly hair and a subtle beard leans forward into view through a window frame. Draped in a simple white t-shirt and towel, the figure's hollow eyes look inward with a mixture of resignation, longing, and exhaustion. Set against a textured backdrop of vibrant blues and lush greenery, the contrast underscores the painful isolation of dependency—how a person can be completely detached from the bright, living world surrounding them.
By applying signature skeletal iconography to the tragedy of addiction, "The Long Fall From Grace" strips away superficial judgment to expose the raw human cost of the struggle. It stands as a deeply empathetic and haunting addition to the gallery, holding up an honest mirror to the gradual descent, vulnerability, and lingering dignity within those fighting their darkest battles.
