Down To The Bones
As part of the collection "The Inside Joke: Down To The Bones," "A Magnified Need For Control" directly revisits the core theme that launched last year's well-received exhibition, "The Inside Joke: The Bare Bones of Narcissism." While this year's series expands its reach across a wider spectrum of dark, complex areas of the human condition, this piece turns the lens back onto narcissism itself—specifically dissecting the obsession with dominion and total manipulation.
In this captivating portrait, a long-haired skeletal figure clad in a green jacket holds a magnifying glass up to its eye socket, peering intently out at the viewer. Set against a textured, vibrant yellow-green background, the image visually captures the obsessive scrutiny and micro-management inherent in narcissism. It highlights the relentless drive to control every narrative, dictate perceptions, and monitor the lives of those around them to maintain authority and secure their supply.
By applying signature skeletal iconography to the pathology of control, "A Magnified Need For Control" strips away the charming exterior to reveal the calculating, hyper-vigilant nature underneath. It stands as an incisive and compelling contribution to the gallery, holding up an uncompromising mirror to the exhausting illusion of power that drives narcissistic behavior.
