Original Sin
Acrylic on Cardstock (Gel Plate)
8.5” x 11”
2025

My latest piece is titled "Original Sin," an 8.5 x 11 inch acrylic painting on cardstock created using the Gel Plate transfer technique. It captures a reimagined Eve in the Garden of Eden, frozen in that iconic moment just before biting the apple. Rather than the familiar European features seen in classical portrayals, I chose to depict her as a Native Central American woman. If Eve was truly the first woman, it stands to reason she would reflect the earliest people to walk the earth—not the stylized ideals of the Renaissance. This shift in perspective is both a visual correction and a quiet challenge to how we've been taught to see history and humanity.

The textures and tones in this piece are layered with intention, blending symbolism, story, and cultural reclamation. The title "Original Sin" becomes more than a religious reference—it becomes a reflection on how original narratives have been shaped, altered, and inherited. By centering a woman who resembles the ancestors of the Americas, this work asks viewers to reexamine where our stories come from and who gets to be at the beginning of them.
