Mail Art South Florida
My latest piece, Miami Shark, is a 5" x 7" mixed media work created with acrylic, ink, and spray paint on watercolor paper. This artwork is part of my ongoing participation in the global mail art movement, where I continue to focus on themes rooted in South Florida. Miami's culture, wildlife, and lush tropical fauna constantly inspire my visual storytelling. The city’s vibrant energy and contradictions offer endless material to explore. With Miami Shark, I set out to capture the duality of paradise and predator that defines this place I call home.
When most people think of Miami, they picture sunlit beaches and oceanic wildlife, particularly sharks. But truthfully, the most dangerous sharks here wear tailored suits. From the days of the cocaine cowboys to modern day crypto hustlers and real estate manipulators, Miami has always attracted a unique breed of land shark. In this piece, I’ve taken a playful approach by depicting a great white shark dressed in flashy Miami attire, holding a cell phone, merging the natural with the satirical. It’s a nod to both the literal and metaphorical predators that swim these waters.
