My artwork "Blue George" is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic on cardstock created with a gel plate, and it marks my first attempt at painting a young George Harrison as part of my developing Young Beatles series (see earlier posts for more). Originally, I had envisioned a two-tone style for this series, but through the process, I realized that the limited palette wasn’t aligning with the vision I had for the final set. Still, Blue George lingered. There was something compelling in the restraint of its color, the mood it set with that single tone—a deep, emotive blue that feels both cool and quietly intense.
This piece now stands apart from the rest of the series, like a lost album cover from a long-forgotten solo project. It’s got that retro vibe, the kind of image that makes you pause and lean in, wondering about the story behind the expression. While it didn’t end up fitting the final collection’s aesthetic, it became something special on its own—an ode to George’s quiet mystique, a mood piece that captures the introspective side of the “quiet Beatle.”
