The Lady Spano is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic painting on cardstock, created as a tribute to a remarkable woman — a devoted friend, fierce mother, and gifted photographer. Crafted using a gel plate transfer and layered with a vibrant orange background, the piece radiates warmth, energy, and resilience. It is the first in a two-part portrait series, with the companion piece featuring her daughter. This work not only celebrates her daily strength in navigating the dual challenges of motherhood and career but also honors her creative spirit, which continues to inspire through her photography shared with the world.
Lately, portraiture has become a personal mission for me — a way to celebrate those closest to me by giving form to their essence, capturing their presence in a medium that will hopefully outlive us. The Lady Spano is more than just a portrait; it’s a testament to the quiet power of women who carry so much and still find ways to give. Through this series, I aim to preserve and uplift the people who shape my life. Their stories, their greatness, and their humanity deserve to be seen and remembered.
