Fantasy, Mythology and Science Fiction
My latest painting, Crocodile Tears, was created using a gel plate and brought to life with rich, shimmering gold and emerald paints. The central figures are an indigenous American-looking woman with long black hair and an albino crocodile, both locked in a tender embrace. Tears stream down their faces, yet their mouths curl subtly upward, suggesting ambiguous emotions. This deliberate contradiction captures the tension between sorrow and satisfaction, tenderness and manipulation. The shimmering colors only add to this duality, inviting the viewer to question what is real and what is merely performance.
The theme dives into the complexities of modern emotional expression, especially within relationships where outward displays of love or heartbreak may conceal deeper, more unsettling truths. In a world where vulnerability can be weaponized and affection used as a mask, Crocodile Tears explores how beauty and pain often exist side by side. The woman’s serene yet sorrowful gaze and the crocodile’s unsettling docility speak to the human tendency to hide cruelty behind charm and the way trust can be both freely given and dangerously misplaced.
