The “1” in this piece represents the “1” in “213,” our old apartment number. Revisiting Apt 213 Jams brings back a flood of memories. It’s wild to think about how dominant CDs were back then—and how quickly they’ve become obsolete over the past two decades. The title itself is a nod to the music compilations we used to make, which somehow took on a life of their own. “213 jams” became more than just mixes; they became a soundtrack to that time in our lives. Even now, all these years later, I still get random texts, emails, and conversations about those playlists from the people who were part of that era. This piece captures that spirit—raw, nostalgic, and deeply personal.
