Abstract
“Ladders” is an 8.5" x 11" abstract acrylic painting on cardstock that explores structure and repetition through earthy tones and textured movement. Dominated by deep browns, blacks, and muted greens, the piece evokes a grounded, almost ancient atmosphere. These colors are applied using a rolling technique, creating vertical and diagonal trails that move up and down the page like vines, weathered tree bark, or geological strata. This rolling motion gives the painting a sense of both rhythm and erosion—something being built and worn down at the same time.
At the center of the composition, three sand-colored blocks stand out against the darker background. They are also created through the rolling method but feel more deliberate and solid, as if they anchor the chaos around them. Thin olive green lines run horizontally across these central forms, resembling rungs on a ladder or markings etched in stone. These repeated lines suggest ascent, time, or a quiet order—offering a contrast to the freeform movement elsewhere in the piece. “Ladders” is both grounded and searching, like a memory of something climbed long ago or a path still being discovered.
