My latest artwork, "Richard Hatchet," is an 8.5 x 11 inch acrylic on cardstock created using the Gel Plate transfer technique. The piece is inspired by a standout moment from the HBO series White Lotus, where Walton Goggins delivers a performance that is both hilarious and masterfully restrained. With almost no dialogue, his physical presence carries the entire scene, and I was completely floored by his comedic timing and emotional precision. It is the kind of acting future performers will study to understand how much can be conveyed through subtlety and control.
Alongside an equally sharp and layered performance by Sam Rockwell, the scene delivers a burst of chaotic brilliance. I aimed to reflect that intensity in the painting by using only vibrant warm colors to match the lighting and emotional heat of the moment. This piece is less about literal likeness and more about honoring the energy and brilliance of the performance. Every brushstroke in "Richard Hatchet" is a nod to that unforgettable scene and the rare power of visual storytelling through acting.
