My latest piece is titled "George," an 8.5 x 11 inch acrylic painting on cardstock created using the Gel Plate transfer technique. It features a portrait of George Washington, the first president of the United States and one of the essential founding figures of our country. I chose a palette of deep red and blue, complemented by a soft beige for his skin and white for his hair and ruffled shirt, drawing directly from the traditional colors of the American flag. The image is both bold and restrained, a nod to the seriousness of his legacy and the lasting impact of his leadership.
There are many stories and myths surrounding George Washington, but the one that has always resonated with me most is his humility and vision for the future. He led a revolution, helped found a nation, and yet refused to seize power for himself. Instead of becoming a king, he stepped away from leadership after two terms, setting a precedent for democratic governance that would shape the nation for centuries. This piece is both a tribute and a reflection—a visual reminder of the strength found in restraint and the courage to let go.
