“Maya” is an 8.5" x 11" acrylic portrait on cardstock, created using a gel plate technique to capture both warmth and vibrancy in honor of one of my biggest supporters. This piece is a tribute to a woman who, from halfway across the world, has been a consistent source of encouragement—always engaging with my poetry, song, art, and photography with genuine positivity. Originally from Peru and now living in Spain, Maya carries a quiet strength and radiant energy that I’ve come to see as deeply grounding and inspiring. This portrait is a thank-you in color and form, an appreciation for someone whose presence makes the creative journey less solitary.
The gel plate adds texture and movement to the piece, just like Maya brings texture and depth to my digital community. Her posts—frank, uplifting, and full of clarity—mirror her energy in this artwork, layered with vibrant hues and expressive brushwork. “Maya” is more than a portrait; it’s a reflection of the beauty that can grow in mutual support, even across oceans.
