More Portrait
My 2024 mixed media painting, "Meh," captures the portrait of a young woman with dirty blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. Her expression is neutral, almost vacant, and she wears a plain white T-shirt, a reflection of the everyday uniform of modern life. The piece is layered over IKEA furniture plans, an intentional nod to the homogenized, assembly-line existence many find themselves trapped in today. The use of acrylic, collage, pencil, and spray paint combines raw texture with a sense of impermanence, mirroring the contrast between individuality and the mundane routines that often define us.
"Meh" speaks to the tension between beauty and the soul-crushing ordinariness of modern society. It explores how even those with striking features, like the subject of the painting, can be confined by the monotony of daily life, their uniqueness dulled by the relentless demands of the modern rat race. The juxtaposition of the woman against the backdrop of mass-produced furniture plans highlights how modernity often strips away our individuality, forcing us into boxes where we live out routine lives devoid of deeper meaning or purpose.
