More Word on the Street
This is my latest painting titled "Ground Control To Major...," part of my ongoing series "Word on the Street." The series blends abstract art, graffiti, and typography into works that carry words meant to inspire, heal, or spark reflection, left out in public spaces for strangers to find. Each piece becomes more than just a painting—it becomes a message delivered through chance, guided by God, the universe, or whatever one believes in, to connect with the person who needs it most. In this case, the words are borrowed from David Bowie, whose music continues to resonate across generations.
"Ground Control To Major..." was created on the back of a photo box cardboard, bringing new life to discarded material while also nodding to memory and preservation. The background is painted in a mix of salmon orange and yellow, a warm and glowing base. Over this, the title words appear in faint green, shadowed in blue and highlighted in white, giving them a graffiti style balloon like effect, as if they are floating in space. To anchor the piece in nostalgia, I added a vintage record sticker, connecting it to the era of vinyl and record stores, a time when music was experienced tangibly and communally.
