Fantasy, Mythology and Science Fiction
This is my latest artwork, "Chamomile Tears Me Up," an 8.5" x 11" mixed media piece on cardstock that began as a hand drawn sketch and was later transferred using the gel plate method. The inspiration came from an unexpected exchange on TikTok, where a comment on one of my earlier works, "A.I.," sparked a conversation about whether my paintings were made by artificial intelligence. Anyone who knows me understands that I wrestle with many personal flaws, and pettiness alongside my inability to let things go rank high on that list. Rather than ignore the comment, I decided to channel it into creativity. While browsing the profile of the commenter, I found a striking cosplay of Vi from Arcane, which became the basis for my reinterpretation, reimagined as a skeleton in honor of the Halloween season.
What makes "Chamomile Tears Me Up" particularly unique is that it was born from a happy accident. During the gel plate pull, the piece tore right down the middle, a moment that could have easily felt like failure. Instead, I embraced it and used the original hand drawn sketch to patch over the tear, turning it into a collage that elevated the artwork into something special. The layers of mixed media, combined with the repaired surface, add depth and narrative to the piece. What began as a mishap became an artwork full of texture, character, and resilience—much like the process of creating and living itself.
At its heart, this artwork is also a reminder about communication, assumptions, and empathy. Instead of assuming the worst or dismissing one another, we have the opportunity to ask questions, engage, and connect. What started as a critical comment turned into dialogue and, ultimately, a meaningful piece of art. "Chamomile Tears Me Up" carries that energy back into the world, a reminder that embracing imperfection, listening, and choosing love over conflict can transform not only art but life itself.
