My latest painting, Florida Sandhill Crane, is part of my continued engagement with the mail art movement, through which I share art inspired by the unique landscapes and wildlife of South Florida. This work captures one of my favorite subjects, the elegant Sandhill Crane, a species that symbolizes grace, loyalty, and the enduring rhythm of nature. Visitors to South and Central Florida often encounter these majestic birds standing tall in pairs, as they are monogamous and devoted companions for life. Their soft gray plumage and vivid red crowns are instantly recognizable and a delight to paint.

In creating this piece, I wanted to celebrate the quiet presence of the Sandhill Crane in Florida’s natural world. These birds can often be found in small family groups, but during the cooler months, northern cranes arrive in great numbers, transforming the wetlands into a living tapestry of sound and motion. The connection between the Sandhill and the endangered Whooping Crane also inspired me, reminding us of the fragile balance that binds species and habitats together. My goal is to reflect both the beauty and the vulnerability of the creatures that share our world.
