This is my latest painting called "Lioness" which is a portrait of the late and eternally great Amy Winehouse. Painted in muted tones of green, blue, and beige with a vibrant red for her lips and bandana, the work aims to capture the emotional gravity and raw vulnerability she brought to her music and public presence. Instead of pursuing a strict likeness, I centered the portrait on the tension between strength and fragility, an interplay shown through textured surfaces, stark contrasts, and the soft fading of her form into the background. The grain and erosion across the face are intentional and echo the complexity of someone illuminated by fame yet marked by its weight.

The red bow and lips act as points of vitality that stand out within the dark and turbulent palette. To me they represent the spark of defiance and individuality that defined Winehouse and her artistry. By letting certain areas remain rough or seem to dissolve at the edges, I wanted to evoke the fleeting and fragile nature of memory. Rather than a definitive portrayal, this piece is meant as a reflection on the emotional resonance she left behind.
