Fantasy, Mythology and Science Fiction
My latest artwork, Sad Robot, was created using the gel plate method and grew out of my interest in blending texture with emotion. I pictured a small robot sitting alone in the rain, holding a fractured red heart as if it were something precious and fragile. I wanted the surface to feel rough and imperfect, allowing the figure to exist somewhere between machine and human. The bright blue eyes suggest awareness and longing, while the cracked heart introduces a vulnerability that machines are not meant to carry. The rain falls relentlessly across the scene, adding emotional weight and reinforcing the sense of quiet solitude.
At its core, this painting is about empathy, isolation, and the silent ache that comes with feeling deeply. By placing heartbreak in the hands of a mechanical figure, I am questioning what it truly means to feel and whether emotion belongs only to humans. The contrast between the rigid body and the broken heart reflects how even in a world shaped by technology, tenderness and sorrow still persist. For me, this robot becomes a mirror, gently holding pain and reminding us that vulnerability can exist in the most unexpected forms.
