The Bare Bones of Narcissism
This is my painting titled Walking Away and it is part of The Inside Joke’s Bare Bones of Narcissism gallery, which explores narcissism and its effects over generations through art. This will also be my final entry in the series, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who supported it, shared it, and helped make it by far the most widely seen body of work I have ever created. During the height of its popularity in October 2025, more than forty thousand of you were tuning in daily to see each new piece, and that level of engagement is something I will always carry with me.
This series was first imagined two years ago, and from the very beginning I made myself a promise that it would take exactly that long to complete. My closest friends have heard me repeat it countless times, two years was the commitment, no more and no less. Narcissism is a terrible human affliction, and I hope that as technology and medicine advance, it may one day become something that can be treated. For those who live with it, I feel pity, because inside them is a deeply wounded child who deserved a better world, one filled with love, safety, and being truly seen.
For those who have suffered because of it or are still finding their way through its damage, know there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel no matter how dark the path may feel. For this final piece, I chose not to include my usual breakdowns of the narcissistic cycle or its victims. Instead, I leave this work entirely in your hands, inviting you to interpret what you see through your own experiences and understanding. It is up to each of us to make meaning of the world through our own eyes. Blessings and love to you all, and thank you for all the support. Much like the title implies, it’s now time to walk away.
