The mail art movement continues to shape how I think about art as a form of connection rather than an object meant to sit still. It is rooted in exchange accessibility and dialogue, allowing artwork to move freely and carry stories from one place to another. Through my continued involvement I use this format to reflect the people culture and history that define South Florida, sharing pieces that feel personal but are meant to live beyond my own hands.

For this work I chose the American White Ibis, a bird that is inseparable from the landscape of South Florida and from my own sense of home. It is a familiar presence in neighborhoods parks and streets, resilient and adaptable much like the city itself. The ibis also holds special meaning for me as the mascot of my beloved University of Miami Hurricanes, a symbol of pride community and shared identity that ties nature and culture together.

This painting is my latest piece within the mail art movement and reflects my ongoing exploration of place through recognizable icons. I focused on capturing the spirit of the American White Ibis rather than a literal rendering, using texture and contrast to echo its quiet strength and everyday beauty. The work is meant to feel both local and universal, a small visual message that celebrates what makes South Florida such a unique and inspiring place to live.
