Abraham Lincoln
Acrylic on Cardstock (Gel Plate)
8.5” x 11”
2026

Abraham Lincoln was born into humble beginnings in a log cabin in Kentucky, and his early life was defined by hardship, loss, and relentless effort. He was largely self educated, reading by firelight and shaping his mind through determination rather than privilege. His journey from a poor frontier boy to the sixteenth President of the United States reflects a life built on perseverance, moral clarity, and an unshakable belief in human dignity. Lincoln carried both personal sorrow and national responsibility, and his quiet strength became the foundation of his leadership during one of the most turbulent times in American history.

Lincoln’s role during the Civil War reshaped the soul of the nation. He faced impossible choices and unbearable pressure, yet remained committed to preserving the Union and ending the injustice of slavery. Through the Emancipation Proclamation, he transformed the war into a moral fight for freedom, giving hope to millions who had been denied their humanity. His leadership was not driven by pride, but by conviction, and his vision helped redefine the meaning of liberty. His courage to stand firm in the face of division ensured that the United States would emerge not only united, but morally transformed.

In this painting, I sought to capture not just Lincoln’s likeness, but his weight, his humanity, and the emotional gravity he carried. The texture and layered surface reflect the complexity of his character, marked by struggle, endurance, and resolve. His eyes hold both sorrow and strength, representing a man who bore the pain of a nation while guiding it toward justice. I used earth tones and raw surfaces to connect him to his humble origins, while the contrast in the background suggests the fire and division of his time. This work is my tribute to his presence, his sacrifice, and his lasting imprint on history.
