I am excited to introduce my latest painting titled Shotgun Betty. This piece is a continuation of my exploration into the macabre and the powerful imagery of skeletal figures which aligns with my deep interest in horror and spooky themes. By combining the traditional aesthetics of the afterlife with a rugged western edge I wanted to create a character that feels both timeless and rebellious. The figure stands as a symbol of unyielding strength and gritty determination holding her ground against the vivid backdrop.
The composition relies heavily on the stark contrast between the bright textured yellow background and the deep earthy reds of her dress. I utilized a stippled gritty technique across the bone structure to give her physical presence a weathered and historical feel. Her wide black hat and the heavy shotgun she carries anchor the piece in a narrative of survival and fierce independence. Every brushstroke and layer of texture was applied to emphasize the raw energy that radiates from this striking silhouette.
