Deadly Love Catrina
Deadly Love Catrina
Acrylic on Cardstock (Gel Plate)
8.5” x 11”
2026

This is my latest painting titled Deadly Love Catrina. I wanted to capture the striking balance between the Macabre beauty of the Day of the Dead and the eternal nature of affection. The deep crimson accents against the stark white of the skull makeup serve as a visual bridge between life and the afterlife. I focused on creating a look that feels both haunting and deeply soulful to invite the viewer into a moment of quiet reflection.

The process for this piece involved layering textures and muted tones to create a weathered vintage feel. By using a limited color palette dominated by earthy ochre and bold reds I aimed to emphasize the silhouette of the figure. The inclusion of the heart on the chest acts as a focal point representing a love that persists even after the body has faded. It was important to me that the expression remained enigmatic and full of hidden stories.

Sharing this work feels like a celebration of heritage and the cycles of existence that connect us all. I hope that those who see it find a sense of peace in the imagery of the Catrina who has long been a symbol of dignity in death. This painting is a personal exploration of how we honor those we have lost while keeping their spirits vibrant in our memories. Thank you for joining me on this creative journey through color and symbolism.
