2026

This is my latest painting titled Por El Amor De Mi Catrina. With this piece I wanted to dive deeper into the soulful gaze of the iconic Catrina figure focusing specifically on the vibrancy of the eyes and the warmth of the spirit behind the mask. The title reflects a personal devotion to the themes of remembrance and the enduring power of love that survives beyond our physical time. I chose to frame the face closely to create an intimate connection between the subject and the viewer.

The artistic process for this work centered on bold color choices and intricate facial details like the heart motifs on the cheeks and chin. I surrounded the figure with rich deep reds and hints of gold in the floral crown to suggest a sense of regal tradition and celebration. The background transitions from a dark teal to a brighter emerald green which provides a lush contrast to the stark white of the painted face. I utilized a stippled texture throughout the skin tones to give the piece a grounded organic quality that feels both ancient and contemporary.

Ultimately this painting is an exploration of the beauty found in the cycle of life and death. By combining traditional Day of the Dead imagery with a modern expressive style I hope to honor the cultural significance of this figure while adding my own perspective on affection and memory. Each line and color choice was made with a deep respect for the history that the Catrina represents. Thank you for taking a moment to experience this tribute to a love that never fades.
