Mail Art South Florida
“A Pair of Dolphins” continues my participation in the global exchange known as the Mail Art Movement. Through this practice I send small pieces of South Florida into the world, sharing the culture, wildlife, and everyday wonders that make this place so special to call home. Mail art has always been about connection, storytelling, and the idea that art can travel beyond gallery walls. For me it becomes a way to share the rhythms of life near the water where the ocean, the bay, and the creatures that live within them shape the identity of the region.
Dolphins are among the most beloved and recognizable animals in the waters of South Florida. Often seen gliding through Biscayne Bay or surfacing just beyond the shoreline, they carry a sense of intelligence and grace that fascinates anyone lucky enough to witness them. Their social nature and playful behavior make them symbols of curiosity and connection with the natural world. For many people living along the coast, spotting dolphins in the water feels like a small reminder of how closely daily life is tied to the surrounding sea.
In the painting, two dolphins move through a field of layered turquoise and deep aquatic tones that suggest the shifting light beneath the surface of the water. Their forms are simplified and slightly shadowed, emerging from textured brushwork that gives the ocean a sense of depth and movement. One dolphin glides forward while the other appears just above and behind it, creating a quiet sense of companionship and motion.
