More Abstract
In my latest abstract work titled J and J I wanted to explore the chaotic harmony found within layers of color and found textures. This piece is a result of my continued experimentation with mixed media where I utilize acrylic layering and the unique textures provided by a gel plate. The various J shapes scattered across the canvas act as rhythmic hooks that guide the eye through a sea of vibrant reds and cool blues. I aimed to create a surface that feels like a piece of an urban wall where history and new ideas are constantly overlapping and competing for attention.
The composition relies on the repetition of circular forms and abstract symbols to evoke a sense of playfulness amidst the complex background. By using bold primary colors against more muted earthy tones I am able to highlight the movement of the brushstrokes and the physical depth of the paint. J and J is meant to be an immersive experience where the viewer can discover small details hidden within the many layers of the work. It represents a moment of creative spontaneity where the process of making the art becomes just as important as the final visual result.
